Volkswagen's Canadian warranty is a year longer than the Japanese and domestic norm — four years or 80,000 km on the whole car — and its powertrain coverage matches them at five years or 100,000 km. That is the good news. The rest of the picture is that every gasoline Volkswagen sold today is turbocharged, many use dual-clutch (DSG) transmissions, and German parts and labour price accordingly. What does the Volkswagen factory warranty cover in Canada?
These are Volkswagen's Canadian terms — Canadian kilometres, not American miles, which is where most online confusion about "volkswagen warranty" comes from.

When does the Volkswagen factory warranty actually run out?
At 20,000 km a year the New Vehicle Limited Warranty and its 80,000 km limit expire together at four years, and the powertrain warranty at five. At 25,000 km a year, the comprehensive coverage is done at three years and two months, the powertrain at four. Because so much of a modern Volkswagen's repair cost is in the parts the powertrain warranty does not cover — the DSG's mechatronic unit is a transmission part, but the water pump, thermostat housing, sensors and infotainment are not — the fourth-year cut-off is the one that matters.

Volkswagen Protection Plus is VW Canada's dealer-sold extended mechanical coverage, with repairs at Volkswagen dealers using genuine parts, typically bought at delivery or while the New Vehicle Limited Warranty is in force. It is a good product with the dealer-network requirement that all manufacturer plans carry. Where an independent plan fits: a used Volkswagen (they are a very common used purchase), a car past the factory warranty, an owner with a trusted independent VW specialist — of which Canada has many — or simply a second written price to compare.

Safety recalls are repaired free by Volkswagen regardless of warranty status and are not listed here. Pre-existing conditions — a fault that already exists when coverage is bought — are excluded on every extended-warranty program, which is why coverage is arranged before symptoms appear. Every current gasoline Volkswagen is factory-turbocharged, so the small mandatory turbo surcharge applies across the range; TDI diesels carry the diesel surcharge.
