Subaru Canada's factory warranty is slightly better than the industry norm: the 5-year / 100,000 km coverage is a "Major Component" warranty that reaches beyond the powertrain to suspension arms, ball joints, axle shafts and ABS parts. It still ends at five years or 100,000 km, and the Subaru-specific repairs — the Lineartronic CVT, EyeSight camera calibrations, the 2.4-litre turbo — are all four-figure jobs. What does the Subaru factory warranty cover in Canada?
These are Subaru's Canadian terms — Canadian kilometres, not American miles, which is where most online confusion about "subaru warranty" comes from.

When does the Subaru factory warranty actually run out?
At 20,000 km a year the New Vehicle Limited Warranty ends at three years and the Major Component Warranty at five. Subaru drivers skew higher than that; at 25,000 km a year the Major Component coverage is gone at four years, and it is common for us to quote a four-year-old Outback that is already out of factory coverage on kilometres alone.
Because the Major Component Warranty covers suspension and ABS parts that most brands leave out, it is worth a call to your dealer before paying for those repairs in years four and five — they may still be Subaru's to fix.

The Subaru Protection Plan is the only vehicle service contract endorsed by Subaru Canada, sold through Subaru dealers in three levels (from powertrain-only upward), with repairs at Subaru dealers. It is typically bought while the vehicle is still under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. It is a good plan. The independent alternative matters when the dealer's purchase window has closed, when you bought the vehicle used, when you want your own mechanic to do the work, or when you want a second written price to compare against the first.

Both are legitimate. The right one depends on whether you bought new or used, where you want the work done, and whether the dealer's price is competitive — which is exactly what a second written quote tells you.

Safety recalls are repaired free by Subaru regardless of warranty status and are not listed here. Pre-existing conditions — a fault that already exists when coverage is bought — are excluded on every extended-warranty program, which is why coverage is arranged before symptoms appear. Turbocharged Subarus (WRX, Ascent, Outback XT, Legacy GT/XT) carry a small mandatory turbo surcharge on our programs.
