Kia's Canadian warranty is the same shape as Hyundai's: five years or 100,000 km on everything, then nothing. The 10-year powertrain warranty Kia advertises in the United States does not exist here. It is still a strong factory warranty — two years longer than Toyota's or Honda's comprehensive coverage — but it means the engine and transmission lose coverage on the same day as the radio.

What does the Kia factory warranty cover in Canada?
These are Kia's Canadian terms — Canadian kilometres, not American miles, which is where most online confusion about "kia warranty" comes from.

When does the Kia factory warranty actually run out?
At 20,000 km a year, the comprehensive and powertrain warranties end together at five years; at 25,000 km a year, at four. There is no powertrain tail. The EV and hybrid battery coverage runs to eight years, but the rest of the EV — the charging electronics, motors' ancillaries, heat pumps and screens — is only covered for five.
Kia, like Hyundai, has extended its own engine coverage on certain model years of the 2.0 and 2.4 GDI engines under recalls and settlements. Those are free and VIN-specific; check with a dealer before paying for engine work.

Kia Protect is Kia Canada's dealer-sold extended coverage, offered in tiers with repairs at Kia dealers, and generally bought at delivery or while the factory warranty is still in force. With five years of factory coverage already in place, the plan's value is in the years that follow, and the tier is the decision that matters: comprehensive coverage covers the dual-clutch transmissions, turbo hardware and electronics that generate claims; a powertrain-only extension mostly covers parts that rarely fail. An independent plan is worth pricing for a used Kia, one past year five, or an owner who wants their own repair shop.

Safety recalls are repaired free by Kia regardless of warranty status and are not listed here. Pre-existing conditions — a fault that already exists when coverage is bought — are excluded on every extended-warranty program, which is why coverage is arranged before symptoms appear. Turbocharged Kias (1.6T Seltos, Sportage, Sorento, Forte GT; 2.5T Sorento, K5 GT, Carnival is not turbocharged) carry a small mandatory turbo surcharge on our programs.

What is Kia Protect?
Kia Canada's own dealer-sold extended coverage, offered in tiers and honoured at Kia dealers. It is usually purchased at delivery or while the vehicle is still under the factory warranty.
Can I get an extended warranty on a Kia EV6 or EV9?
