Jeeps are bought with the heart and kept for a long time, and they are among the most-quoted vehicles we see. The Wrangler and Grand Cherokee dominate, followed by the Compass and Gladiator. Mechanically they range from the simple (a Pentastar V6 Wrangler) to the complex (a Grand Cherokee 4xe with a 2.0 turbo, a plug-in hybrid system and air suspension), and the warranty exposure ranges with them.
Below: what Stellantis covers on a Jeep in Canada, when it ends for a typical owner, how Mopar Vehicle Protection compares with an independent plan, and what covering a Jeep costs.
What does the Jeep factory warranty cover in Canada?
These are Jeep's Canadian terms — Canadian kilometres, not American miles, which is where most online confusion about "jeep warranty" comes from.
| Coverage | Term | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Warranty | 3 years / 60,000 km | Whichever comes first. |
| Powertrain Warranty | 5 years / 100,000 km | Fully transferable, $0 deductible. |
| Wrangler 4xe high-voltage battery and hybrid components | 8 years / 160,000 km | Mopar Canada names only the Wrangler 4xe. No Canadian battery term is published for the Grand Cherokee 4xe, Wagoneer S or Recon. |
| Rust-through (perforation) | 5 years / 160,000 km | All body sheet metal. |
| Roadside assistance | 5 years / 100,000 km | 24-hour, with the powertrain warranty. |

Please check these terms against your own owner's manual. We do our best to keep Jeep's Canadian terms current and correct, but manufacturers revise them, coverage differs by model year and trim, and errors can happen. The warranty booklet or owner's manual that came with your vehicle is what governs your coverage, not this page — please confirm anything here against it (or with your Jeep dealer) before you rely on it.
When does the Jeep factory warranty actually run out?
At 20,000 km a year the Basic Warranty ends at three years and the powertrain warranty at five, with the kilometre limits arriving at the same time. Wrangler owners often drive less than average; Grand Cherokee owners often drive more. At 30,000 km a year the powertrain coverage is finished at three years and four months.
The Basic Warranty is what covers a Jeep's electronics, air suspension, hybrid ancillaries and steering components — and it is over at three years. That gap, between year three and whenever the owner finally sells, is where most Jeep repair bills land.

Get My Free Jeep QuoteMopar Vehicle Protection vs. an independent extended warranty
Mopar Vehicle Protection is Stellantis' extended service contract for Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler and Fiat, sold through dealers in tiers (Maximum Care, Added Care Plus, Powertrain Care) with repairs at Stellantis dealers in Canada and the United States. Good coverage, dealer-priced, and easiest to buy at delivery. An independent plan is worth pricing for a used Jeep, a Jeep past the factory warranty, an owner who wants an independent 4x4 specialist to do the work, or anyone who simply wants a second written price.
| Mopar Vehicle Protection | Independent plan through Auto Warranty Experts | |
|---|---|---|
| Who sells it | Jeep dealers | Us — several insurer-backed Canadian programs, compared in one written quote |
| Where repairs are done | Jeep dealers | Any licensed repair facility in Canada — including a Jeep dealer, if you prefer |
| When you can buy it | Usually while the factory warranty is still in force | Any time — new, used, or years after the factory warranty ended (a short inspection applies then) |
| How it's priced | Set by the selling dealer | Rated by vehicle class, mileage, term and tier; quoted plus tax, held for seven days |
| Who pays the shop | Jeep | The claims administrator, directly, on most plans |
| Transferable if you sell | Usually, with conditions | Yes, on the programs we quote |
Both are legitimate. The right one depends on whether you bought new or used, where you want the work done, and whether the dealer's price is competitive — which is exactly what a second written quote tells you.
What tends to be expensive to fix on a Jeep?
These are the repairs Jeep owners most often ask us about once the factory coverage has ended. They are common enough to plan for, not inevitable, and the costs are typical Canadian ranges for parts and labour — your shop and your region will vary.
| Repair | What owners run into | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| Nine-speed automatic (Cherokee, Compass, Renegade) | The ZF-sourced 9-speed in 2014–2020 models is known for shift-quality complaints and valve-body or full-unit repairs at higher kilometres. | ≈ $2,500–$6,000 |
| Quadra-Lift air suspension (Grand Cherokee) | Compressor, air springs and height sensors on air-suspended Grand Cherokees are a frequent and costly out-of-warranty repair. | ≈ $1,500–$4,500 |
| 4xe plug-in hybrid ancillaries and 2.0 turbo components | Outside the 8-year battery coverage, the onboard charger, inverter cooling, hybrid control electronics and the 2.0 turbo's hardware are premium-priced parts. Some 4xe issues have been handled under recall, which is free — check the VIN. | ≈ $2,000–$6,000 |
| Pentastar 3.6 oil filter housing, Uconnect and body electronics | The plastic oil-filter/cooler housing leak on 2014–2019 3.6 V6 engines is very common; Uconnect screens and body-control modules round out the non-mechanical claims. | ≈ $800–$2,500 |
Safety recalls are repaired free by Jeep regardless of warranty status and are not listed here. Pre-existing conditions — a fault that already exists when coverage is bought — are excluded on every extended-warranty program, which is why coverage is arranged before symptoms appear. The 2.0 turbo (Wrangler, Grand Cherokee 4xe, Cherokee) and the 1.3 turbo (Compass, Renegade) carry a small mandatory turbo surcharge on our programs; the 3.0 EcoDiesel carries the diesel surcharge.
What does a Jeep extended warranty cost in Canada?
Programs price vehicles by class, and Jeep rates in class 1 of four — the lowest-priced group. These are current example prices for a Jeep in that class, rounded, one-time purchase plus tax:
| Coverage | 3 years / 60,000 km of driving | 5 years / 100,000 km of driving |
|---|---|---|
| Comprehensive — named-component coverage, $5,000 per visit | ≈ $1,650 | ≈ $2,300 |
| Exclusionary — everything not on the exclusion list, $6,000 per visit | ≈ $2,200 | ≈ $2,750 |
Rate card effective February 1, 2026. All prices plus tax, with a flat $100 deductible per repair visit. Exclusionary coverage is available on vehicles up to 7 model years old and under 140,000 km at enrolment. Factory-turbocharged engines add $45 and diesels $75; a doubled kilometre allowance is $150. Not sold in Quebec. Your quote is for your vehicle — these show the shape of the market, not your price. Comprehensive or exclusionary — which one makes sense? NOTE: make-page prices are generated from functions/data/ratecard.js at build time — nothing to update by hand when the card changes; re-check the wording if the program structure changes
Which Jeep models do we quote?
Any Jeep that meets the program's age and kilometre limits qualifies. The ones we quote most: Wrangler and Wrangler 4xe, Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L, Compass, Gladiator, Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, Cherokee. Trims and powertrains matter for price (turbocharged versions carry the surcharge above), so we confirm the exact vehicle before quoting — a VIN gets you there fastest.
