What does the Ford factory warranty cover in Canada?

When does the Ford factory warranty actually run out?
At 20,000 km a year the New Vehicle Limited Warranty ends at three years and the powertrain warranty at five, with the kilometre limits arriving at the same time. Pickup owners often drive more: at 30,000 km a year the bumper-to-bumper coverage is gone at two years and the powertrain coverage at three years and four months.
Ford has also issued a number of Customer Satisfaction Programs (extended coverage on specific components for specific model years — some EcoBoost cam phasers and coolant-intrusion cases among them). Those are free, tied to the VIN, and worth checking with a dealer before you pay for any major repair or buy coverage for it.

Ford Protect is Ford's umbrella brand for its protection products; the extended warranty within it is the Extended Service Plan (ESP), sold through Ford and Lincoln dealers in tiers (PremiumCARE at the top, down to PowertrainCARE), with repairs at Ford and Lincoln dealers in Canada and the United States. Coverage is good and Ford's dealer network is the largest in the country, which blunts the usual "dealer-only" objection. The trade-offs are the same as any manufacturer plan: the price is set by the dealer selling it, it is generally bought while the factory warranty is in force, and it is hardest to comparison-shop at the moment it is offered. If you are buying used, are past the factory warranty, or want your own shop to do the work, price an independent plan alongside it.

Both are legitimate. The right one depends on whether you bought new or used, where you want the work done, and whether the dealer's price is competitive — which is exactly what a second written quote tells you.
What tends to be expensive to fix on a Ford?
These are the repairs Ford owners most often ask us about once the factory coverage has ended. They are common enough to plan for, not inevitable, and the costs are typical Canadian ranges for parts and labour — your shop and your region will vary.

Safety recalls are repaired free by Ford regardless of warranty status and are not listed here. Pre-existing conditions — a fault that already exists when coverage is bought — are excluded on every extended-warranty program, which is why coverage is arranged before symptoms appear. EcoBoost engines are factory-turbocharged, so almost every current Ford carries the small mandatory turbo surcharge on our programs; Super Duty diesels carry the diesel surcharge.
