Dodge Extended Warranty in Canada: What the Factory Covers, When It Ends and What a Plan Costs

Short answerA Dodge in Canada carries a 3-year / 60,000 km Basic Warranty and a fully transferable 5-year / 100,000 km Powertrain Warranty with $0 deductible (SRT models have different powertrain terms), plus 24-hour roadside assistance for the powertrain period and 5-year rust-through coverage. Stellantis' own extended plan is Mopar Vehicle Protection, through dealers. An independent plan covers the same repairs at any licensed shop; Dodge rates in our lowest price class — typically about $1,650 to $2,750 plus tax for multi-year coverage.

The Dodge lineup in Canada is small today — Durango, Hornet, the new Charger — but the vehicles on the road are not: hundreds of thousands of Grand Caravans, Journeys, Chargers and Challengers are still in daily use, most of them years past any factory coverage. A large share of the Dodge quotes we write are for those vehicles.

Below: what Stellantis covers on a Dodge in Canada, when it ends, how Mopar Vehicle Protection compares with an independent plan, what tends to be expensive to fix on the Dodges people actually own, and what covering one costs.

What does the Dodge factory warranty cover in Canada?

These are Dodge's Canadian terms — Canadian kilometres, not American miles, which is where most online confusion about "dodge warranty" comes from.

CoverageTermNotes
Basic Warranty3 years / 60,000 kmWhichever comes first.
Powertrain Warranty5 years / 100,000 kmFully transferable, $0 deductible. Does not apply to SRT models, which carry their own powertrain terms.

Please check these terms against your own owner's manual. We do our best to keep Dodge's Canadian terms current and correct, but manufacturers revise them, coverage differs by model year and trim, and errors can happen. The warranty booklet or owner's manual that came with your vehicle is what governs your coverage, not this page — please confirm anything here against it (or with your Dodge dealer) before you rely on it.

When does the Dodge factory warranty actually run out?

At 20,000 km a year the Basic Warranty ends at three years and the powertrain warranty at five. For the Grand Caravans and Journeys still on the road, the factory warranty is long gone — a 2019 Grand Caravan is out of powertrain coverage in 2024 at the latest. Those vehicles are quoted vehicle by vehicle: enrolment limits on age and kilometres vary by program, and a short mobile inspection is required first.

Mopar Vehicle Protection vs. an independent extended warranty

Mopar Vehicle Protection is Stellantis' extended service contract for Dodge, Ram, Jeep, Chrysler and Fiat, sold through dealers in tiers (Maximum Care, Added Care Plus, Powertrain Care) with repairs at Stellantis dealers in Canada and the United States. It is bought while the factory warranty is still in force, which rules it out for most of the Dodges people ask us about. For a new Durango or Hornet it is a reasonable choice; for anything older, an independent plan is usually the only route to coverage.

What tends to be expensive to fix on a Dodge?

These are the repairs Dodge owners most often ask us about once the factory coverage has ended. They are common enough to plan for, not inevitable, and the costs are typical Canadian ranges for parts and labour — your shop and your region will vary.

RepairWhat owners run intoTypical cost
62TE six-speed transmission (Grand Caravan, Journey)Valve-body, solenoid-pack and full-unit failures on the six-speed in 2011–2020 minivans and Journeys are the most common major repair we hear about from Dodge owners.≈ $3,000–$5,500
Power sliding doors, liftgate motors and A/C evaporators (Grand Caravan)Not glamorous, but a sliding-door motor or a dash-out evaporator replacement is a four-figure repair, and minivans have a lot of both.≈ $800–$2,500
5.7 HEMI camshaft and lifters, and 3.6 Pentastar oil housing (Durango, Charger, Challenger)HEMI lifter and camshaft wear is a major engine repair; the Pentastar's plastic oil-filter/cooler housing leak is cheaper but very common.≈ $800–$6,500
Uconnect screens and body electronicsDelaminating touchscreens, radio modules and body-control or TIPM electrical modules on 2011-and-newer Dodges.≈ $900–$2,500

Safety recalls are repaired free by Dodge regardless of warranty status and are not listed here. Pre-existing conditions — a fault that already exists when coverage is bought — are excluded on every extended-warranty program, which is why coverage is arranged before symptoms appear. The Hornet's 1.3 and 2.0 turbo engines and the Charger's Hurricane twin-turbo six carry a small mandatory turbo surcharge on our programs; the all-electric Charger Daytona is quoted through our EV coverage.

What does a Dodge extended warranty cost in Canada?

Programs price vehicles by class, and Dodge rates in class 1 of four — the lowest-priced group. These are current example prices for a Dodge in that class, rounded, one-time purchase plus tax:

Coverage3 years / 60,000 km of driving5 years / 100,000 km of driving
Comprehensive — named-component coverage, $5,000 per visit≈ $1,650≈ $2,300
Exclusionary — everything not on the exclusion list, $6,000 per visit≈ $2,200≈ $2,750

Rate card effective February 1, 2026. All prices plus tax, with a flat $100 deductible per repair visit. Exclusionary coverage is available on vehicles up to 7 model years old and under 140,000 km at enrolment. Factory-turbocharged engines add $45 and diesels $75; a doubled kilometre allowance is $150. Not sold in Quebec. Your quote is for your vehicle — these show the shape of the market, not your price. Comprehensive or exclusionary — which one makes sense? NOTE: make-page prices are generated from functions/data/ratecard.js at build time — nothing to update by hand when the card changes; re-check the wording if the program structure changes

Which Dodge models do we quote?

Any Dodge that meets the program's age and kilometre limits qualifies. The ones we quote most: Durango, Hornet, Charger (gas and Daytona EV), Challenger (to 2023), Grand Caravan (to 2020), Journey (to 2020). Trims and powertrains matter for price (turbocharged versions carry the surcharge above), so we confirm the exact vehicle before quoting — a VIN gets you there fastest.

Common questions about Dodge extended warranties

Can I get an extended warranty on a Dodge Grand Caravan?

Often, yes — depending on its age and kilometres. Enrolment limits vary by program, a short mobile inspection is required on vehicles past factory coverage, and pre-existing conditions are excluded. Send us the year and mileage and we will tell you exactly what it qualifies for.

What is Mopar Vehicle Protection?

Stellantis' own extended service contract for Dodge, Ram, Jeep, Chrysler and Fiat vehicles, sold through dealers in tiers such as Maximum Care and Added Care Plus, honoured at Stellantis dealers in Canada and the United States, and generally purchased while the factory warranty is still in force.

How much does a Dodge extended warranty cost in Canada?

Dodge rates in our lowest price class: about $1,650 for three years of comprehensive coverage up to $2,750 for five years of exclusionary coverage, plus tax, before any turbo surcharge. Older, higher-kilometre vehicles price toward the top of their band and may qualify for fewer tiers.
