General information only. This page summarizes the Electric Vehicle contract we reviewed (form E7024E, January 2026, the edition for Manitoba, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island) and iA's EV brochure (January 2026) as we read them on September 28, 2026. It isn't a contract or an offer of coverage, and it isn't legal advice. Coverage and terms can vary by province and change between contract editions. Where this page and your contract differ, your contract governs. Auto Warranty Experts is not the warranty provider or administrator.

It also lists the tire pressure monitoring module (not the sensors), although the contract's exclusion list excludes the tire pressure monitoring system, including valves and sensors.
- Everything else: any other part the contract doesn't exclude.
How battery claims work. Depending on use, driving conditions and the model, the contract says the battery may degrade during the contract. To check whether its capacity is within the expected range, have it evaluated by a licensed repair facility. If it needs repair or replacement, it may be repaired or replaced with a new, upgraded or similar battery whose capacity is within acceptable limits for the vehicle's year and kilometres. The contract says the replacement may not return the vehicle to "like new" condition, but will make it fully operational and age-appropriate. You must charge the battery according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
Options
| Option | What the contract says |
|---|---|
| Upgraded Battery Coverage | Raises the battery limit to the amount you choose, capped at the lesser of that amount or the value of your vehicle. Coverage may be pro-rated based on the vehicle's age and kilometres at the time of the claim. The battery limit doesn't change if the contract is transferred |
| Turbocharger/supercharger | Factory-installed only |
| Internal combustion engine (gas or diesel) | Engine block, heads and internal lubricated parts, plus belts and radiator. Whether your vehicle qualifies is confirmed on your quote |
| Fuel system | Fuel pump, injectors, tanks, sending unit and metal fuel lines |
| Suspension lift kit and/or oversize tires | A factory- or dealer-installed lift of up to 6.5 inches or tires up to 35 inches in diameter (or your province's standard, whichever is less), meeting provincial safety standards, with the surcharge paid |
| Claim Free Rebate | See below |
Benefits included
| Benefit | What the contract pays |
|---|---|
| 24/7 roadside assistance | Up to 5 benefits per contract, on a public roadway or maintained campground road: mechanical first aid (not software updates), changing a tire with your inflated spare, delivery of oil or coolant (you pay for the fluid), and a locksmith if your keys are locked inside. Towing is included; your contract sets the destination and distance. The EV list doesn't include a battery boost or fuel delivery. Call 1-866-742-0938 |
| Rental | Up to $50 a day to a maximum of $250 per repair visit, taxes included, with the number of days based on the repair cost (1 day up to $200, up to 5 days over $1,000) |
| Trip interruption | Lodging and restaurant costs up to $165 a day for up to 3 days ($500 per occurrence), when a covered breakdown more than 150 km from home keeps the vehicle overnight at a licensed repair facility |
| Software update | Once per contract term, up to $500, when a software update is needed to fix an issue with your vehicle |
| Emergency repairs | If the vehicle is unsafe or can't be driven while the claims office is closed, you can have the repair done up to $500 per occurrence. Call the claims administrator within 5 business days after the repair. Payment is limited to what iA would have paid for an authorized repair |
No deductible applies to roadside, rental, trip interruption or the software update.
Claim Free Rebate (optional)
If you bought the Claim Free Rebate option with your contract, you can ask for a refund at expiry of up to the lesser of the subtotal on your contract less the rebate fee, or the amount shown for the rebate on your contract. The conditions:
- No breakdown has occurred and no claim or other benefit (such as roadside assistance, rental, trip interruption or the software update) has been paid during the whole term.
- You request it personally, in writing, within 120 days after the contract expires, with a copy of your contract and your current insurance and registration.
- You still own the vehicle at expiry, and the contract has run its full term and hasn't been transferred.
- The option was bought at the same time as your contract.
- No more than 3 contracts with this option per household.
- On a new vehicle, the plan must be at least 120,000 km, with a minimum term of 60, 72 or 84 months depending on the odometer when you buy it. On a pre-owned vehicle, the minimum term is 48 months.
- The rebate isn't transferable, and its fee is non-refundable after the first 30 days.
Deductible, limits and term
- Deductible: the amount on your contract, paid per repair visit, plus any taxes. If a breakdown takes more than one visit, you pay it once. For a claim in the United States, you pay it in US dollars.
- Per repair visit: the lesser of the amount on your contract or the fair market value of your vehicle at the time of the repair.
- In total: the lesser of the amount on your contract or the retail price you paid for the vehicle (excluding tax, title and licence fees). This doesn't change if the contract is transferred.
- Battery: the lesser of $5,000 or the amount on your contract, unless you bought Upgraded Battery Coverage.
- When coverage starts. On a new vehicle, the contract counts from the manufacturer's original warranty start date and from 0 km. On a pre-owned vehicle, it counts from the contract effective date and that day's odometer reading. The contract can also be set up to start when a manufacturer's extended or battery warranty ends (it calls this MESP). Coverage ends at your contract expiry date or kilometres, whichever comes first.
- Term and kilometres: shown on your quote and contract.
Things to know before you buy
- Call first. Authorization from the claims administrator is required before any repair, teardown or rental. The only exception is the emergency-repair benefit above.
- Approved repair facilities. The contract defines a repair facility as the selling dealership you bought the vehicle from, or a fully licensed and approved repair facility. It excludes repairs done by private parties (including you), by facilities the claims administrator hasn't authorized, or by unlicensed facilities.
- Report on time. A breakdown must be reported within 15 days of when it happens, and before your contract expires.
- Maintenance and charging. Have the vehicle maintained by a licensed repair facility on the manufacturer's schedule, and charge the battery as the manufacturer recommends. Keep every invoice or work order showing the date, odometer reading, VIN, your signature and the services performed. Do-it-yourself maintenance and repairs aren't permitted. Keep the manufacturer's warranty in force for its full term.
- Not covered: the 12-volt battery and cables, shocks and struts, safety restraints including airbags, glass and lights, fuses, brake rotors and drums, tires, wheels and the tire pressure monitoring system (including valves and sensors), body and trim, and maintenance items such as hoses (other than steering and A/C hoses) and wiper blades. Brake pads, filters and fluids are covered only when needed for an eligible repair. Parts listed under Options are covered only if you bought that option.
- Damage and wear. Collision, fire, theft, weather, rust and corrosion, contaminated fluids, road hazards and physical damage aren't covered. Neither are misuse, missed maintenance, failure to protect the vehicle after a warning light, noises and leaks, or improper storage.
- Modifications. Custom and add-on parts, frame and suspension modifications, and emission, exhaust or engine modifications aren't covered. A lift kit or oversize tires are handled through the option above.
- Towing a trailer. Breakdowns aren't covered if you tow beyond what the manufacturer approves, or without a factory-installed or factory-authorized tow package where the manufacturer requires one.
- Other coverage first. Repairs another warranty, service contract or insurance covers, and conditions the manufacturer has taken responsibility for through recalls or bulletins, aren't covered. Pre-existing conditions aren't covered either.
- Registration and residence. The vehicle must be insured and registered in Canada. You must be a Canadian resident, and the vehicle can't be used outside Canada more than 180 days a year.
- Parts and labour. Replacement parts may be new, remanufactured or of like kind and quality. Labour is paid up to an approved labour guide.
- Acceptance. The contract is effective unless the administrator notifies you otherwise within 90 days of purchase.
- Where it applies. Canada and the continental United States. US repairs are paid in US dollars.
Eligibility
- New vehicle: at least 1 month and 1,000 km left on the manufacturer's original full warranty.
- Pre-owned vehicle: the make, model, age and kilometres must meet the administrator's eligibility rules. The vehicle must also pass an inspection. iA accepts a certified inspection by a Red Seal mechanic. Your quote confirms whether your vehicle qualifies.
- Superior Wrap: the vehicle's factory battery warranty must be at least 5 years and 100,000 km and still have at least 1 month and 1,000 km left.
- Bought after the vehicle ("aftersale"): allowed when the Aftersale box is checked on your contract and the vehicle passes that inspection. No claims are accepted in the first 30 days after you buy the contract.
- Not eligible: alternate fuel models; vehicles over 6,125 kg GVW; vehicles used for racing; and vehicles ever deemed a total loss or write-off, not manufactured for distribution in Canada or the US, or salvage vehicles. The contract also excludes vehicles whose manufacturer's warranty has been voided, unless the reason is that the vehicle was imported from the US and the applicable charge was paid.
- Business use: a single driver's light commercial use is allowed with a surcharge. Uses such as daily rental, courier or delivery, taxi and ride-share, snow plowing, towing (other than as the manufacturer recommends), police, tow trucks and construction aren't eligible.
How a claim works
- Prevent further damage. Pull off the road safely and shut off the vehicle when a warning light or gauge shows a problem, or you notice unusual noises or performance.
- Take the vehicle to a licensed repair facility and give them a copy of your contract or your contract number. The contract defines a repair facility as the selling dealership you bought the vehicle from, or a fully licensed and approved repair facility. Claims: 1-888-444-0301.
- The shop gets an authorization number from the claims administrator before any disassembly or repair. The authorized amount is the most that will be paid. Anything more needs approval first. A previously reported but unconfirmed failure must be resubmitted within 30 days.
- Approve any teardown. If the shop needs to inspect or take apart the failed parts, you authorize it and pay for it if the failure isn't covered. iA may require an inspection first.
- Review what's covered with the service department.
- Pay your deductible. iA pays the shop the authorized cost, less your deductible plus any taxes. Repair orders and paperwork must reach the claims administrator within 60 days.
Transfer and cancellation
- Transfer: once, started by the original contract holder, when you sell the vehicle privately. It can't be transferred if the vehicle is sold or traded to a dealership, leasing company or other vehicle business. Within 30 days of the sale, send the administrator proof of payout, the signed transfer form and the $100 fee plus tax. Any remaining factory warranty and your maintenance records go to the new owner. The Claim Free Rebate doesn't transfer, and the battery limit stays the same. Transfers are only allowed for vehicles registered in Canada.
- Cancellation: under the contract we reviewed, you can cancel only within the first 30 days, through the selling dealership or the administrator, with a statement of the odometer reading on the date of your request. You get a full refund if no claim has been authorized. If one has, the refund is less a $100 fee plus tax and any claims paid. After 30 days, only a lienholder (if the contract was financed) can cancel, for non-payment, total loss or repossession. The refund is pro-rated on the lesser of the remaining days or kilometres, less claims paid and a $100 fee plus tax, and it's paid to the lienholder. If your province's law requires different terms, the contract says iA will comply by endorsement.
- Complaints: iA's complaint process is at iadealerservices.ca/complaints.
Common questions about iA's EV extended warranty
What does iA's electric vehicle extended warranty cover?
Superior covers the high-voltage battery and cable, inverter/converter, electric drive motor and generator, battery management and control modules, on-board charger, DC-DC converter and battery cooling. It also covers a new home charger up to 220 volts bought with the vehicle, the transmission, drive axles, steering, brakes, electrical, air conditioning, suspension, cooling, enhanced electrical and the High Tech Deluxe package. On top of that, it covers any other part the contract doesn't exclude.
Is the EV battery covered, and how much will iA pay?
Yes, on Superior, and on Superior Wrap once the factory battery warranty ends. Battery claims are capped at the lesser of $5,000 or the amount on your contract, unless you buy Upgraded Battery Coverage. That option raises the cap to the amount you choose, up to the value of your vehicle, and may be pro-rated for the vehicle's age and kilometres at the time of the claim.
What is EV Superior Wrap?
It's for vehicles with a factory battery warranty of at least 5 years and 100,000 km that still has at least 1 month and 1,000 km left. While the factory battery warranty is in force, Superior Wrap excludes the high-voltage battery and cable, inverter/converter, and electric drive motor and generators, and covers the rest of Superior. When the factory battery warranty ends, it converts to full Superior coverage.
Does the plan cover battery degradation?
The contract says the battery may degrade during the contract depending on use, driving conditions and the model, and that a licensed repair facility can evaluate whether its capacity is within the expected range. If the battery needs repair or replacement, the replacement will have capacity within acceptable limits for the vehicle's year and kilometres. It may not return the vehicle to like-new condition, but will make it fully operational and age-appropriate.
What benefits come with the EV plan?
24/7 roadside assistance (up to 5 benefits, including towing), rental up to $50 a day and $250 per repair visit, trip interruption up to $165 a day for 3 days ($500 per occurrence) more than 150 km from home, one software update per term up to $500, and emergency repairs up to $500 when the claims office is closed. The EV roadside list doesn't include a battery boost or fuel delivery.
How does the EV Claim Free Rebate work?
If you bought the option with your contract and no breakdown, claim or other benefit (including roadside, rental and trip interruption) was paid during the whole term, you can ask for a refund of up to the lesser of the subtotal on your contract less the rebate fee, or the rebate amount shown on your contract. You must ask personally, in writing, within 120 days after expiry, still own the vehicle, and not have transferred the contract. Minimum terms apply.
Can I use my own mechanic with iA's EV plan?
Only if the shop is licensed and approved. The contract defines a repair facility as the selling dealership you bought the vehicle from or a fully licensed and approved repair facility, and it excludes repairs by facilities the claims administrator hasn't authorized. The shop must get an authorization number from the claims administrator, at 1-888-444-0301, before any teardown or repair.
Can I cancel or transfer iA's EV plan?
You can cancel within the first 30 days, with an odometer statement, for a full refund if no claim has been authorized. If one has, you get a refund less a $100 fee plus tax and any claims paid. After 30 days, the contract only allows a lienholder to cancel. You can transfer the contract once in a private sale, within 30 days, with proof of payout and the $100 fee plus tax. The battery limit stays the same and the Claim Free Rebate doesn't transfer.
