General information only. This page summarizes the Auto Premium contract we reviewed (form E7316E, March 2020, the edition for Manitoba, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island) and iA's Auto Premium brochures (November and December 2025) as we read them on September 28, 2026. It isn't a contract or an offer of coverage, and it isn't legal advice. Coverage and terms can vary by province and change between contract editions. Where this page and your contract differ, your contract governs. Auto Warranty Experts is not the warranty provider or administrator.

High-tech packages. iA's brochure shows the high-tech packages (basic or deluxe) as included on Superior and Superior Wrap and optional on the other levels, and says availability may vary. Check that it's shown on your contract.
Superior and Superior Wrap aren't available when the plan is set up to start after a manufacturer's extended warranty ends (the contract calls this MESP). More on named-component vs. exclusion-based coverage and what powertrain coverage usually includes.
What's covered
- Engine (Basic and up): block, cylinder heads and internal lubricated parts, including the pistons, crankshaft, camshaft, timing chain or belt and guides, valves, water pump, oil pump, manifolds, engine mounts, flywheel/flexplate and diesel injection pump, plus seals and gaskets.
- Turbocharger/supercharger (Basic and up): factory-installed only.
- Transmission, automatic or standard (Basic and up): housing (when damaged from within), internal parts, torque converter, electronic shift control unit, factory cooler and mounts.
- Transfer case and drive axles (Basic and up): internal parts, locking hubs, drive shafts, universal and CV joints, CV boots and 4WD actuator.
- Steering (Preferred and up): steering gear or rack and pinion, power steering pump and hoses, tie rods and ends, column shafts, and rear-wheel steering parts.
- Brakes (Preferred and up): master cylinder, booster, calipers, wheel cylinders, hydraulic lines, plus ABS control processor, wheel speed sensors and pump.
- Electrical (Preferred and up): alternator, starter, engine wiring harnesses, engine control module, ignition module, sensors, wiper motors and switches, and horns.
- Air conditioner (Preferred and up): condenser, compressor, lines and hoses, evaporator and switches.
- Fuel system (Preferred and up): fuel pump, injection pump, injectors, tanks, sending unit and metal fuel lines.
- Suspension (Classic and up): control arms, ball joints, stabilizer bars and links, wheel bearings and variable-dampening suspension parts.
- Cooling system (Classic and up): cooling fan motor and clutch, radiator, heater core, thermostat and blower motor.
- Enhanced electrical (Classic and up): climate control programmer, instrument cluster, many engine sensors, powertrain control module, body control module, cruise control, and power window, seat, mirror, sunroof and door lock motors and switches.
- Superior: everything above, plus any other part the contract doesn't exclude. Emissions components are covered to 100,000 km on the odometer.
Superior Wrap. It applies when your vehicle has an active factory powertrain warranty of at least 5 years and 100,000 km. While that warranty still has at least 1 month and 1,000 km left, Superior Wrap covers everything in Superior except the engine, turbocharger/supercharger, transmission, transfer case and drive axle, which the factory still covers. When the factory powertrain warranty ends, it converts to full Superior coverage.
If you drive a hybrid. The base Auto Premium contract excludes the high-voltage battery, battery control module, battery cooling system, hybrid control module and inverter/converter. For hybrids and electric vehicles, iA automatically adds its Hybrid Electric Endorsement (form E7535E) to the contract. It extends coverage to the applicable hybrid and electric vehicle components. A residential charging station is covered if it's bought at the same time as the vehicle. Ask us for the endorsement wording with your quote.
Benefits included on every level
| Benefit | What the contract pays |
|---|---|
| 24/7 roadside assistance | Up to 5 benefits per contract, on a public roadway or maintained campground road: mechanical first aid, changing a tire with your inflated spare, a battery boost, delivery of gas, oil or coolant (you pay for the fuel or fluid), and a locksmith if your keys are locked inside. Towing is included; your contract sets the destination and distance. Call 1-866-742-0938 |
| Rental | Up to $50 a day to a maximum of $250 per repair visit, taxes included, with the number of days based on the repair cost (1 day up to $200, up to 5 days over $1,000) |
| Trip interruption | Lodging and restaurant costs up to $100 a day for up to 3 days ($300 per occurrence), when a covered breakdown more than 150 km from home keeps the vehicle overnight at a licensed repair facility |
| Emergency repairs | If the vehicle is unsafe or can't be driven while the claims office is closed, you can have the repair done up to $500 per occurrence. Call the claims administrator within 5 business days after the repair. Payment is limited to what iA would have paid for an authorized repair |
No deductible applies to roadside, rental or trip interruption.
Claim Free Rebate (optional)
If you bought the Claim Free Rebate option with your contract, you can ask for a refund at expiry of the subtotal on your contract less the rebate fee, up to the maximum shown on your contract. The conditions:
- No breakdown has occurred and no claim or other benefit has been paid during the whole term. That includes roadside assistance, rental and trip interruption.
- You request it personally, in writing, within 60 days after the contract expires, with a copy of your contract and your current insurance and registration.
- You still own the vehicle at expiry, and the contract has run its full term and hasn't been transferred.
- No more than 3 contracts with this option per household.
- On a new vehicle, the plan must be at least 120,000 km, with a minimum term of 60, 72 or 84 months depending on the odometer when you buy it. On a pre-owned vehicle, the minimum term is 48 months.
- The rebate isn't transferable, and its fee is non-refundable after the first 30 days.
Deductible, limits and term
- Deductible: the amount on your contract, paid per repair visit, plus any taxes. If a breakdown takes more than one visit, you pay it once. For a claim in the United States, you pay it in US dollars.
- Per repair visit: the lesser of the amount on your contract or your vehicle's Canadian Black Book wholesale value at the time of the repair.
- In total: the lesser of the amount on your contract or the retail price you paid for the vehicle (not including tax, title and licence fees). This doesn't change if the contract is transferred.
- When coverage starts. On a new vehicle, the contract counts from the manufacturer's original warranty start date and from 0 km. On a pre-owned vehicle, it counts from the contract effective date and that day's odometer reading. Coverage ends at your contract expiry date or kilometres, whichever comes first.
- Term and kilometres: shown on your quote and contract.
Things to know before you buy
- Call first. Authorization from the claims administrator is required before any repair, teardown or rental. The only exception is the emergency-repair benefit above.
- Approved repair facilities. The contract defines a repair facility as the selling dealership you bought the vehicle from, or a fully licensed and approved repair facility. It excludes repairs done by private parties (including you), by facilities the claims administrator hasn't authorized, or by unlicensed facilities.
- Report on time. A breakdown must be reported within 15 days of when it happens, and before your contract expires.
- Maintenance. Have the vehicle maintained by a licensed repair facility on the manufacturer's schedule. The contract highly recommends the severe-driving schedule in Canada's climate. Keep every invoice or work order showing the date, odometer reading, VIN, your signature and the services performed. Do-it-yourself maintenance and repairs aren't permitted. Keep the manufacturer's warranty in force for its full term.
- Not covered: batteries and cables, shocks and struts, clutch parts, safety restraints including airbags, glass and lights, fuses, the throttle body, brake rotors and drums, exhaust and emission systems (except as stated for Superior), tires, wheels and the tire pressure monitoring system, body and trim, and maintenance items such as spark plugs, hoses (other than steering and A/C hoses) and belts (other than the timing belt). Brake pads, filters and fluids are covered only when needed for an eligible repair.
- Damage and wear. Collision, fire, theft, weather, rust and corrosion, contaminated fluids, road hazards and physical damage aren't covered. Neither are misuse, missed maintenance, sludge, failure to protect the vehicle after a warning light, noises and leaks, or repairs meant to improve compression or reduce oil use.
- Modifications. Custom and add-on parts, frame and suspension modifications, and engine, exhaust or emission modifications aren't covered. A suspension lift kit or oversize tires can be covered with a surcharge if they meet your province's safety standard.
- Towing a trailer. Breakdowns aren't covered if you tow beyond what the manufacturer approves, or without a factory-installed or factory-authorized tow package where the manufacturer requires one.
- Other coverage first. Repairs another warranty or service contract covers, and conditions the manufacturer has taken responsibility for through recalls or bulletins, aren't covered. Pre-existing conditions aren't covered either.
- Registration and residence. The vehicle must be insured and registered in Canada. You must be a Canadian resident, and the vehicle can't be used outside Canada more than 180 days a year.
- Parts and labour. Replacement parts may be new, remanufactured or of like kind and quality. Labour is paid up to an approved labour guide.
- Acceptance. The contract is effective unless the administrator notifies you otherwise within 90 days of purchase.
- Where it applies. Canada and the continental United States. US repairs are paid in US dollars.
Eligibility
- New vehicle: at least 1 month and 1,000 km left on the manufacturer's original full warranty.
- Pre-owned vehicle: the make, model, age and kilometres must meet the administrator's eligibility rules. The vehicle must also pass an inspection. iA accepts a certified inspection by a Red Seal mechanic. Preferred is for pre-owned vehicles only. Your quote confirms whether your vehicle qualifies for the level quoted.
- Bought after the vehicle ("aftersale"): allowed when the Aftersale box is checked on your contract and the vehicle passes that inspection. No claims are accepted in the first 30 days after you buy the contract.
- Not eligible: alternate fuel models; vehicles over 6,125 kg GVW; vehicles used for racing; vehicles ever declared a total loss, write-off or salvage, or not built for Canada or the US; and vehicles whose manufacturer's warranty has been voided, except US imports with the applicable charge.
- Business use: a single driver's light commercial use is allowed with a surcharge. Uses such as daily rental, courier or delivery, taxi and ride-share, snow plowing, towing (other than as the manufacturer recommends), police, tow trucks and construction aren't eligible.
How a claim works
- Prevent further damage. Pull off the road safely and shut off the engine when a warning light or gauge shows a problem, or you notice unusual noises or performance.
- Call the claims administrator at 1-888-444-0301 to be directed to an approved licensed repair facility near you.
- Take the vehicle to the licensed repair facility and give them your contract or contract number.
- The shop gets an authorization number from the claims administrator before any disassembly or repair. The authorized amount is the most that will be paid. Anything more needs approval first. A previously reported but unconfirmed failure must be resubmitted within 30 days.
- Approve any teardown. If the shop needs to inspect or take apart the failed parts, you authorize it and pay for it if the failure isn't covered. iA may require an inspection first.
- Review what's covered with the service department.
- Pay your deductible. iA pays the shop the authorized cost, less your deductible plus any taxes. Repair orders and paperwork must reach the claims administrator within 60 days.
Transfer and cancellation
- Transfer: once, when you sell the vehicle privately. It can't be transferred if the vehicle is sold or traded to a dealership, leasing company or other vehicle business. Within 30 days of the sale, send the administrator the transfer form and the $100 fee plus tax. Any remaining factory warranty and your maintenance records go to the new owner. The Claim Free Rebate doesn't transfer. Transfers are only allowed for vehicles registered in Canada.
- Cancellation: under the contract we reviewed, you can cancel only within the first 30 days, through the administrator or the selling dealership. You get a full refund if no claim has been authorized. If one has, the refund is less a $100 fee plus tax and any claims paid. After 30 days, only a lienholder (if the contract was financed) can cancel, for non-payment, total loss or repossession. The refund is pro-rated on the lesser of the remaining days or kilometres, less claims paid and a $100 fee plus tax, and it's paid to the lienholder. If your province's law requires different terms, the contract says iA will comply by endorsement.
- Disputes: the contract refers disputes to arbitration under your province's Arbitration Act. iA's complaint process is at www.iasal.ca/complaints.
Common questions about Auto Premium
What is the difference between Auto Premium Basic, Preferred, Classic and Superior?
Basic covers the engine, turbocharger or supercharger, transmission, transfer case and drive axle. Preferred, for pre-owned vehicles only, adds steering, brakes including ABS parts, electrical, air conditioner and fuel system. Classic adds front and rear suspension, cooling system and enhanced electrical. Superior covers any part the contract doesn't exclude, with emissions components covered to 100,000 km on the odometer. Every level includes roadside assistance, rental, trip interruption and emergency repairs.
What is Auto Premium Superior Wrap?
It's for vehicles with an active factory powertrain warranty of at least 5 years and 100,000 km. While that warranty still has at least 1 month and 1,000 km left, Superior Wrap covers everything in Superior except the engine, turbocharger or supercharger, transmission, transfer case and drive axle, which the factory still covers. When the factory powertrain warranty ends, it converts to full Superior coverage.
How does the Auto Premium Claim Free Rebate work?
If you bought the option with your contract and no breakdown, claim or other benefit (including roadside, rental and trip interruption) was paid during the whole term, you can ask for a refund of the subtotal on your contract less the rebate fee, up to the maximum shown on your contract. You must ask personally, in writing, within 60 days after expiry, still own the vehicle, and not have transferred the contract. Minimum terms apply, and the rebate isn't transferable.
Does Auto Premium cover hybrid components?
Yes, through an endorsement. The base contract excludes the high-voltage battery, battery control module, battery cooling system, hybrid control module and inverter/converter.
Can I buy Auto Premium for a vehicle I already own?
Yes, if the Aftersale box is checked on your contract and the vehicle passes an inspection. iA accepts a certified inspection by a Red Seal mechanic. No claims are accepted in the first 30 days after you buy the contract. Your quote confirms whether your vehicle qualifies.
Can I use my own mechanic with Auto Premium?
Only if the shop is licensed and approved. The contract defines a repair facility as the selling dealership you bought the vehicle from or a fully licensed and approved repair facility, and it excludes repairs by facilities the claims administrator hasn't authorized. Call the claims administrator at 1-888-444-0301 first to be directed to an approved licensed repair facility, and make sure the shop gets an authorization number before any teardown or repair.
Can I cancel or transfer Auto Premium?
You can cancel within the first 30 days for a full refund if no claim has been authorized. If one has, you get a refund less a $100 fee plus tax and any claims paid. After 30 days, the contract only allows a lienholder to cancel. You can transfer the contract once in a private sale, within 30 days of the sale, for $100 plus tax. The Claim Free Rebate doesn't transfer.
